Personally I hate circular logging, last admin had it enabled when the power went out....last backup he had was two weeks before. Needless to say I had a helva time getting everything up and running. He resigned 30 minutes after the server came up and realized he didn't have a recent backup.

We got away from Backup Exec, shortly after this happened. I made the push to switch to Barracuda Networks Backup Service. That coupled with a Barracuda Message Archiver has pretty much eliminated any of the hassles when backing up the Exchange Server.

All of our storage groups combined ranks in at a total of 600GB. I am about to start enforcing quota's, needed to wait for the Archiver to catch up and finish indexing all the new mail, and previous mail.

My hats off to Barracuda for making very simple hassle free products, with a set it and forget it mentality.

Great use of logmein! I've had to use ssh on my android phone to restart MySQL on one of our more flaky servers, something I wouldn't have been able to do years ago.

As for exchange, up until recently we had some pretty major issues with the backup server so I ended up enabling circular logs just in-case. We do a *lot* of electronic faxing and majority of our 200+ users have large (2gb+) mailboxes with tif images coming and going along with various other attachments so logs fill up extremely quick. Luckily Backup Exec has been rock solid after a few updates and logs get backed up before they end up being overwritten.

Who's that other person? I've never seen him! Is it a ghost? :)

I plan on continuing my "Firestorm" series with my next addition to it soon, possibly tonight if this "change" I'm doing now works for the good. :)

I don't think so. Three reasons why I don't think that'll happen again. First the original install lasted from January 2008 until now. Second, I plan to completely set up windows... and BACK IT UP completely. That way a 15 hour process is turned into an hour or less... Last but not least, I plan to be buying Windows 7 upon it's release and it's already gained quite the hype of being the best operating system that Microsoft has released since MS-Dos 6.22 :)

Wow, that's something like the "Guest Additions" for Virtual Box within Ubuntu. You could run it as the entire desktop on one workspace. Didn't work perfect, but definitely usable. That will be an excellent thing for Windows7. Microsoft has the ability and power to do it perfectly. Now I'm even more anxious to get into Windows7 gear. I bet my desktop will fly then!

I understand, I'm not a Windows Hater either. I have used Windows 7, and it is going to be the best Windows Release ever. Windows Vista is to Windows ME, as Windows 7 is to Windows XP. Windows 7 is looking to become the next Windows XP in my book, it runs on a lot less resources.

As soon as it is released, i am moving all newer laptops that we have at work, which came with Vista to 7 as the main platform.

I don't know if you played with it yet. But it has an XP Mode. Basically you get a free copy of XP with it, that runs in a Virtual PC environment, they take it a step further, by allowing you to run any application installed in XP seemlessly on 7. Which means you only that application runs, and you don't have to see the whole XP desktop.

I know what you're saying there bud! I recently found out that Windows 7 will be released October 22, 2009. So upon this, I will get it. I'm not a Microsoft hater like some people in the linux crowd, but it doesn't mean I "support" them to the fullest. I would rather have an operating system like windows in the case I need to deal with windows only stuff. Plus, my wife uses windows more then I ever have!

Piracy is a MAJOR thing these days. And I don't think I know one person that is as heavy into PC's as I am that hasn't had something that wasn't 100% legal. When this thing starts getting to big corporations, it's almost horrible. I know the economy has gotten pretty lame in the last few months, but there is no CALL for that.

I want to commend you for such a good decision and standing up to "The Man" about such a strong topic. You most likely had to risk your job and your pay to say, "No." about it. +100 for you my good friend!
